Thrilled to share our small but unique HeXpunk city! As the Environment & Level Designer, I did the greyboxing, modular asset creation, and cityscape assembly, working closely with our talented team to bring this stylized world to life.
My Contributions:
✅ Greybox & Layout Design – Blocked out the cityscape, business streets, interior routes (based on Ester’s concept art), and environmental storytelling elements like pipes and decorations. Iterated for both artistic cohesion and player experience.
✅ Modular Building Kit – From block-in to high-poly to optimized low-poly, I created a versatile asset pack (for all buildings except the factory) and assembled them into a unique, layered cityscape.
✅ Texturing & Groundwork – Designed tiling textures for varied surfaces: park ground, paths, main streets, dust, and moss to add depth.
✅ Lighting - Main Menu, Character selection menu, Gallery
✅ Logo & Branding Design – Modeled custom logos for the main factory ManaCore and small stores to enrich the world’s identity.
✅ VFX - Acid character special abilities
✅ Animation - 2 character animations and 1 enemy animation
✅ Problem-Solving & Adaptability –
- Stepped in to help teammates complete critical assets under tight deadlines.
- Reused and mixed texture maps creatively to fill gaps (e.g., new materials from existing maps).
- Repurposed/modularized assets to cover missing needs without sacrificing consistency.
- Polished collision, overlaps, and floating meshes for seamless gameplay.
- Collaborated with Denise to refine texture settings, ensuring visual harmony across the environment while jointly improving game optimization.
- Optimized lighting in the starting zone - Redesigned illumination to better guide player navigation while fixing originally poor visibility that hindered gameplay flow.
Team Synergy:
✨ Denise – Crafted the hero factory building, hero magic storm VFX, and helped polish the environment decoration together.
✨ Ester – Brought the interior spaces to life with stunning concept art and modelling.
✨ Rain – Added natural charm with park - trees and rocks.
✨ The Whole Team – Contributed environment assets, allowing me to decorate and detail the city into a cohesive, lived-in world.
